Tips every new NFT artist should know

I’ve only been in the NFT community since the beginning of April, but it feels like it has been a decade since then. I have learned so much and found myself wondering, what is one thing I wish I knew then that I know now?

Honestly, I couldn’t pick just one so I decided to ask my Twitter following what they thought. I got a lot of great responses and wanted to share those.

But remember, we are early.

Things move and change so fast because we’re building the plane as we’re flying it. Learn to unlearn, taking care of yourself, and stay true to yourself are themes that stand out to me.

Prioritize self-care

Sleeping and drinking water are super important. The NFT space moves fast and if you are not intentionally disconnecting, you might find yourself on 2 hours of sleep, trying to keep up, and just feeling overwhelmed.

What helped me was to

  1. Surrender to never being able to keep up this helped get rid of a lot of the FOMO feelings
  2. Use scheduling tools like Buffer to manage Twitter posting this means when I am on Twitter, I am actively engaging
  3. Find your community this has been the most helpful thing to me

Learn to unlearn

This is important because you’re learning new things but we also want to avoid bringing the same mental models into web3. This requires we unlearn old ways and embrace new ways of doing things.

Just having that mental preparation goes a long way. I came into the space knowing I knew nothing and I think that has served me well.

If you’re the type that needs to research everything up front, you might be waiting a long time. I unlearn best by doing and immersing myself so this tip stood out to me.

Taking the dive may be scary, but it can also be the path to what you’ve always wanted. This tip from another artist hit the nail on the head so much for me.

Stay true to yourself

You’re going to find yourself surrounded by so many other artists and it will be natural to compare yourself. We’re human, but do not try to change your style when you see the masses FOMOing into something.

Like I said, it’s a natural instinct to want to do this but fight against it. I know I have and I feel it’s been easier for me because of how my art is tied to my healing journey. tl;dr: my healing = being me, who I am and my art is helping me discover myself

So when you start to see all the amazing art (because you will!) and success of other artists don’t compare yourself or your art. Your art is good enough to be as successful.

Just be patient.

Trust yourself

What else?

Well, like one of my follower’s said, you should definitely follow wondermundo on Twitter 🙂

NFT artists are funny and love shitposting. It’s an art form on its own.

Aside from that, here are some other tips mentioned in my thread.
